Elizabeth Galbraith

Elizabeth Galbraith: Employer - Hector MacLean Electrical, Isle of Barra.

Elizabeth found out about the Electrical trade after visiting the careers fair at the SECC in Glasgow. “I did fairly well with my exams but it didn’t inspire me to do electrical work”. Elizabeth had a 2 week trial with an employer which was a success and led to an apprenticeship with her current employer.

When asked about her work experiences she said. “Wiring houses and undertaking tasks on your own feels like a big achievement....When you do the job yourself and it works, is neat and tidy and then when your employer and other people compliment you on your job, its great”. “At Inverness College the teaching is very good and the staff are very helpful. Without the help and support of SECTT I wouldn’t have had this opportunity to become an electrician”.

Elizabeth said that the most challenging aspect so far has been being a female you have to prove yourself every day in the environment you are in.
