David Henry has come a long way in a short time since completing his apprenticeship as an electrician and qualifying by gaining his SVQ Level 3 after attending Inverness College.
Managing Director of D H Marine (Shetland) Ltd, David, a marine electrician, has not only built up his own highly-successful business, but also won the Shetland Shell Live Wire Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2002 and also the Scottish Award for the Best Business Demonstrating Sustainability.
Now aged 29 and married, he lives in Burra, Shetland Isles. He attended Scalloway Junior High School and joined George Robertson Ltd, attending Inverness Higher & Further Education College where he gained an Electrical Installation National Certificate (SVQ Level 3) and an Introduction to Computers/Application Packages National Certificate.
David says: "I completed my apprenticeship and worked for several years in a local electrical engineering firm before taking the plunge and setting up D H Marine (Shetland) Ltd in June 2000.
"The company specialises in Marine and Industrial Electronics and also Industrial installations and repairs. During the short time since D H Marine was incorporated, we have successfully reached recognised status as Caterpillar and Rapp Ecosse approved technicians.
